HOW TO APPLY

The Letter of Inquiry

The first step in learning if Worthy Causes, Inc. will select your organization is to submit a cover sheet and an application about the worthy cause being proposed, and submit it by emailing it to inquiry@worthycausesinc.org .

The Letter of Inquiry: Cover Sheet

In order to expedite an application, it is important that it include a cover sheet with the following information:

  1. Information regarding who will carry out the work
  2. Name of your organization (and acronym if commonly used)
  3. Name of parent organization, if any
  4. Name of chief executive officer or person holding similar position
  5. Organization’s address (and courier address if different)
  6. Organization’s phone number, fax number, and email address, if any
  7. Name and title of the principal contact person, if different from the above
  8. Address (and courier address if different), phone number, and fax number of principal contact
  9. Email address of principal contact
  10. Web address, if any
  11. Verification of your status as a tax exempt 501(c)(3) organization

The Letter of Inquiry: Format

There is no set format, but applications should generally include the following:

  • Name or topic of the proposed project or work to be done
  • A brief statement (2 or 3 sentences) of the purpose and nature of the proposed work
  • The significance of the issue addressed by the project
  • How the work will address the issue
  • How the issue relates to your organization, and why your organization is qualified to undertake the project
  • What work your organization has done on the issue and why your organization should be chosen for assistance with this issue
  • Geographic area or country where the work will take place
  • How one-time assistance from Worthy Causes, Inc. will help address a humanitarian or environmental crisis or materially impact your organization
  • Time-frame when funding is needed
  • Information about those who will be helped by and interested in the work and how you would communicate with them

Worthy Causes, Inc.'s Response

We will send you an acknowledgment that your letter of inquiry was received, and we will direct it to the appropriate staff members for review. If, as a result of that review, Worthy Causes, Inc. concludes that there is no prospect of funding, we will notify you promptly. Please allow up to eight (8) weeks for Worthy Causes, Inc. to reply.

If Worthy Causes, Inc. decides that your project might qualify for a grant, we will contact you to discuss next steps and what further information is required. At present, Worthy Causes, Inc. is doing one event a year and therefore the selection process will narrow to 3 proposals for final selection. Worthy Causes, Inc. only donates to United States non-profit organizations.

All materials submitted become the property of Worthy Causes, Inc. Worthy Causes, Inc. sometimes submits inquiries or proposals to confidential outside review.

Deadlines

The next Worthy Cause will be chosen September 20, 2007.

What Worthy Causes, Inc. Does Not Support

Please note that Worthy Causes, Inc. does not support political activities or attempts to influence action on specific legislation. We do not provide scholarships or tuition assistance for undergraduate, graduate or post-graduate studies; nor do we support annual fundraising drives, institutional benefits, honorary functions, or similar projects.
